The Power by Naomi Alderman is definitely fresh! An interesting and unnerving book that takes a new perspective on gender based violence and inequality. If you like dystopia, this is an interesting stand alone novel that will keep you engaged throughout.

I know everyone harps on about this book but please allow me to add to the furore! If you haven’t picked up 1984 yet it’s absolutely essential reading. The ending is so haunting and heartbreaking that it will stay with you for the rest of your days.

Warm and Fuzzy isn’t my go to genre however I have been reading On Writing by Stephen King. It’s described as a memoir on the craft and gives you loads of great hints and tips on how to write successful fiction. I found this book comforting, educating and inspiring. Stephen King is one of the great master of our time and it’s interesting to hear how he made it to where he is today. It’s a great book to start with if you want to take your writing seriously.

I’m currently reading The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis which I’m really enjoying. The gist is that humans have found a way to create living robots which they have forged and enslaved. The robots have minds of their own and I’m under the impression they’re about to rebel. Exciting! I’ll keep you up to date!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown is brilliant for none stop action. It’s based in a world where the planets have been successfully terraformed and a hierarchical power structure has been established. Darrow lives at the bottom and is thrust into the world of the golds who reside at the top. His mission is to cause rebellion and destroy the hierarchy from within. Love it!

In other exciting news that segways nicely from the last heading – Iron Gold by Pierce Brown is due for release in January. It’s set a number of years after the original Red Rising trilogy, promising a bloody catch up with beloved characters and more heart pounding battle scenes.

Boom, autumn complete!
